Megladon by InnerSpace Corporation Features

The breathing hose is heavy-duty tubing. Like all parts on the Meg, it is designed to withstand lots of abuse. The DSV and all hose couplings are machined out of copolymer acetal, and the T-piece on the counterlung is injection molded.

Each T-piece has a very effective water trap to prevent flooding of the breathing hose from entering the scrubber or sensor area. This allows the breathing hose to be partially flooded and completely purged without any consequence. It is also very strong.

Counterlungs are made out of a rugged Cordura Nylon. The valves use standard couplings, so it's easy to plumb gas from outside sources (even your OC buddy!) into the loop. Hoses can be routed along the counterlungs for a very compact and straightforward package. Neoprene counterlungs are available as an option for lower overall profile.Hose couplings are threaded differently to prevent the user from accidentally reversing the loop.

The three R-22D sensors are mounted in a separate sensor carriage with an absorbent pad for condensation.

The head is compact and robust. The handset interface uses a backlit graphical LCD with reed switches for maximum reliability.

The electronics consist of two completely independent control systems, each with it's own handset interface and power source. The only commonality between the two is the sensors. The electronics support calibration at altitude and multiple setpoints.

A heads-up-display provides the user with constant PO2 information from all three sensors.

The standard Megalodon scrubber is a 5.5-lb axial unit, second from left. It is transparent, allowing the user to easily inspect scrubber packing or use color-changing sofnolime easily.

The Megalodon is built around a sturdy aluminum tube, which supports the scrubber, head, and cylinders. It allows a wide range of cylinders to be used, although the standard cylinders are Luxfer aluminum 19s.

The single-tank adapter (STA) allows standard backplates and BCDs to be used.

Because each Megalodon is built to order, many options and custom changes are available. Some common options are listed below, but if there is something you want that you don't see here, don't hesitate to ask.

  • Different canister color options, including clear or OD green anodizing. Black anodizing is standard.
  • Tiger Gear quick-release cylinder mounts.
  • Different cylinders, including Faber steel and Luxfer aluminum cylinders in 13cf or 19cf. Standard cylinders are Luxfer 19cf.
  • Diluent isolator valve for ADV.
  • A wide range of backplates, including standard gauge stainless steel and aluminum, anodized aluminum in black or OD green, heavy stainless steel (1/4" thick), a lightweight travel plate, and a low-profile plate.
  • Neoprene counterlungs. (Nylon standard)
  • BCDs from Dive-Rite.
  • A scrubber which uses the Micropore ExtendAir solid-state scrubber cartridges.
  • A shorter canister and scrubber, called the Mini-Meg.
